Discover Career Direction & More

We are unique and whole beings, more than four letters a website spits out. The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), like Clifton Strengths, is great for building self-awareness and confidence. Learn from a certified practitioner and understand how you prefer to work, communicate, and relate. I interpret the MBTI for years in career counseling and team building. The instrument isn’t for pigeonholing people or predicting abilities. Rather, it’s a language that describes personality and work styles.

This insight is extremely useful in:

  • Understanding career and life transitions
  • Discerning role or job function desired
  • Articulating a good-fit work and team setting

Based on Jungian typology, the MBTI has been widely used and misused. Not a test, it’s a sort to delineate the personality and work styles through preferences: how you direct energy when engaging the world, how you perceive information, make decisions, and go about life or projects.

It is like, if you are right-handed, you write well with that hand because of habitual usage. If you need to write with the left hand, you can, but with awkwardness. We can ‘do’ both functions. We just have a preference to use one over the other.

For example, if someone tends to get energy from interacting with a variety of people, she would probably feel quite drained coding in a cubicle by herself 8 hours a day.

Or, if someone prefers to have order, structure about projects and his day, he is unlikely to enjoy being on-call for the latest crisis in a healthcare setting.

In this process, you learn about you and others’ preferences. It promotes self-understanding and team dynamics.

More Versatile with Age

As we grow older, we develop our third and least preferred functions. We will always be the type we are born with, but we’ll be more interested in using ‘the other side,’ thus becoming better at using different letters/functions. Again, this is something you won’t get from a website.
